Migrating to new host server, can i simply copy+paste files?
« on: November 16, 2009, 01:20:02 PM »
I am wondering if i want to change my host server at some point, which is very likely, how difficult is it for me to transfer the PHPdirector over to my new host?

Can i simply copy+paste all files over to the new server?

or is it more complicated?

Any ideas on the best way for me to do this?

**********

Just an idea, but how about making a PHPdirector Wikki help page where all these solved problems can be posted up and made into a manual of somekind?? just an idea.... from what i can make out there is no manual or instructions for php director, would be nice to have one...

you can.... but you would have to edit some files (its MUCH easier to just reinstall)

But to reinstall would mean loosing all your videos? or could you simply use a copy of the existing MySQL database to get around this problem?

Also, alot of people i guess will customize their sites so reinstalling would be a big hassle as this would mean having to redo all the work they'd done.

If someone could come up with a guide on how to physically do a migration while retaining all your edits and videos this would be very useful.

Just copy all your files to the new host. Then save you SQL data and move it to your new database.

Edit your config file to point the script to the new database and you should have your old site on a new server.
